by DION BOUCICAULT
directed by ROB CROSER
Ludicrous, ageing, London dandy, Sir Harcourt Courtly, is lured away from the epicentre of fashionable society, by the promise of a rich, beautiful bride - Grace Harkaway - several decades his junior. Arriving in the country, he quickly finds Grace’s charms eclipsed by her hearty, fox-hunting cousin, Lady Gay Spanker. Meanwhile, his hell-raising son, Charles, turns up, and falls madly in love with Grace. And, so, the complications begin to spiral!
Irishman, Dion Boucicault, was a witty, selfish, deceitful charmer, a bigamist and the author of dozens of hugely successful plays, which influenced Oscar Wilde, Bernard Shaw, John Millington Synge and Sean O’Casey. His riotous comedy opened at Covent Garden in 1841, became an instant smash hit, and has remained so since.
The cast includes David Roach, Sheree Sellick, Rob Croser, Chris Bleby and Steven Turner.
