Immediately after the First World War, T.E Lawrence was the world's most famous man - the first truly international media megastar. His part in the Arab Revolt, which earned him the title of "Lawrence of Arabia", was publicised the world over by cinema newsreels, newspapers and magazines. Overwhelmed by the publicity, and mortified at being connected with Europe's betrayal of the Arab people and their quest for independence, he withdrew into the RAF under the assumed name of Aircraftman Ross. Terence Rattigan's brilliant play explores the psychology and inner life of this enigmatically complex hero.
Independent Theatre's production is timed to coincide with, and celebrate, the centenary of the Arab Revolt, and opens in The Space Theatre on Remembrance Day, November 11th.
The plays stars - as Lawrence of Arabia - WILL COX, whose performance of Hamlet in April drew ecstatic audience responses, and rave reviews.
